What to Expect

An overview what happens in a hypnosis appointment

When you arrive for an appointment, the emphasis will be on your comfort.

You can ask any questions you wish about hypnosis that will make you more comfortable. I will ask you some questions as well in order to best customize the session for you. If you have not prepaid for the session, then we will take care of that.

I ask you to turn off your cell phone, as it going off in the middle of a session would be not conducive to your relaxation!

You will be free to make yourself as comfortable as you can–removing glasses or shoes, etc. You can lean back in the recliner and I will dim the lights and play some slow, soothing music so it is easier for you to relax, as if you were going to take a nap.

Then all you have to do is relax. You don’t even necessarily have to pay conscious attention to what I am saying, but you may.  I will use a variety of verbal techniques designed to induce relaxation and hypnotic trance. They often revolve around visualizations or calming breathing techniques. Then the body of the session will revolve around suggestions targeted to your specific challenge. There is a lot of repetition, which helps it sink into the subconscious mind.

During this time, you will feel relaxed. You may feel only lightly relaxed, or deeply relaxed, possibly even asleep. It doesn’t matter.

At the end of the session you will “wake up” (although hypnosis is not sleep) and return to full awareness. I will answer any questions you may have, and give you some final instructions related to your challenge.

After the appointment, you will have a recording of the session. You should listen to it at least once a day (awake, sleeping–it doesn’t matter) for several weeks before your next session. If you need reinforcement on the same challenge, you may want to come in once a week.

Then enjoy your new, improved self–and think of what your new goals are that you want to work on!
